In a bid to meet the reduction of greenhouse gases and to give the construction sector a boost after the COVID-19 pandemic, the government is rolling out a green home grant scheme. The scheme encourages people to make their home more efficient.
Grants will be means tested for 100% contributions towards the work. If you or someone in your household receives some kind of benefit you may be eligible for a 100% contribution. Otherwise you will be able to claim for a green home voucher for two thirds of the work – up to a maximum of £5000.
Work will be categorised in two different sections. Primary and Secondary measures.
Primary measures include insulating loft spaces and cavity wall insulation. The installation of low carbon heating, such as air source heat pumps, ground source heat pumps and thermal solar panels.
Secondary measures include draft proofing, double or triple glazing and replacement energy saving doors. Also, the installation of heating controls such as hot water stats, room stats or smart stats such as Nest or Hive.
The work will need to be quoted by installers who are on the TradeMark scheme and started on the 5th of November 2020. Work will need to be completed and vouchers claimed by the end of March 2021.
